When it comes to the world of Bridgerton on Netflix, it’s genuinely hard to imagine that Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran) would ever have anything to do with each other, much less interact at a majestic ball. But thankfully we don’t live in Regency-era England and it doesn’t seem to be the case in real life. In fact, Bridgerton cast members Charithra Chandran and Nicola Coughlan seem to be super close offscreen. What’s more, Charithra recently comforted Nicole when she had an emotional moment on daytime TV.
During a recent appearance with fellow costar Adjoa Andoh on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the two opened up to host Kelly Clarkson about how the show has changed their lives since it debuted in December 2020. When they were asked their thoughts about what it’s like to showcase diversity and representation onscreen, Nicola began to tear up.
“It’s amazing, the kind of work you want to make,” she told the American Idol alum. “Art is about expressing the real world in a beautiful way … You can watch the show and go, ‘It’s lovely and it’s colorful and it’s fun,’ but what’s it’s done has been so amazing.”
Nicola continued: “When we got to go, I don’t know why I’m getting so emotional … to the Bridgerton Experience the other night and seeing people of all shapes, sizes, colors there celebrating the joy that this show has brought them. It like really touched a nerve. It’s so beautiful. We feel really privileged.”
Unsurprisingly, Nicola’s words resonated with viewers (including us!) and it even had Kelly fighting back tears during her response. But what really grabbed fans’ hearts was the way Charithra took hold of Nicola’s hand and comforted her as she choked up. Even though we almost never see the two share screen time, it’s wonderful to see how compassionate they are to each other.
Kelly wasn’t the only one who loved seeing these two be there for one another. Bridgerton fans watching the heartwarming moment from home took to the YouTube comments section. “The way Charithra grabbed Nicola’s hand to comfort her was touching. They all seem so kind and loving,” one person wrote. “Nicola has come such a long way, she always talked about how this is her dream, [I’m] so proud of her,” another added. “This freaking interview made me laugh and cry, so amazing 🤩,” another added.
Aw, we’re definitely feeling the love right about now. So, can we expect to see Charithra and Nicola onscreen together for Bridgerton season 3? If this interview is any indication, then Shondaland may just need to write an emotional scene or two …
