Dear reader, Lady Whistledown has been quiet since the season finale of Bridgerton because she’s been busy acting as the muse to legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath.
Just in time for the season two drop of the hit Shondaland series on Netflix, Pat McGrath Labs is back with a second Bridgerton makeup collection with a campaign starring Nicola Coughlan who plays Penelope Featherington (aka Lady Whistledown) on the show.
“We found out the collaboration was going to happen when we first started filming season two —
and we had been using the MTHRSHP eyeshadow palette on Penelope for the whole season,” Coughlan tells InStyle over Zoom. “When they got in touch and said they’d love to work together it was a no-brainer. Makeup is a real passion of mine, and Pat McGrath is one of the most iconic makeup brands in the world, if not the most. So how would I say no to that? Of course I wouldn’t.”
The second Bridgerton makeup collection includes five new limited-edition products: the six shade MTHRSHP: Bell Of The Ball eyeshadow palette, Legendary Wear: Velvet Kohl Eyeliner, seven shades of the dewy finish SatinAllure Lipstick, Skin Fetish: Skintillating Diamond Body Shimmer, and Blushing Delights face palette. All products come in pink packing with Regency era-inspired prints. The collection is priced from $24 to $65 and will be available on March 24 at patmcgrath.com.
While Coughlan has to keep plot lines under wraps, she can spill the tea on the key Pat McGrath products head hair and makeup artist Erika Ökvist used during filming, including the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, a go-to for dewy, natural-looking skin.
“I think you’ll see that in season two, Erika, who designed the makeup looks, and Jenny Rhodes-McLean, who’s my makeup artist, wanted everyone to look glowy and fresh,” Coughlan shares. “I think we’re quite lucky in the Bridgerton world because we have some artistic license. People have seen season one and know it’s a world that’s really colorful, really diverse, and kind of anachronistic in its own way. So they were able to take that and go, yeah, let’s give them the most beautiful skin.”
While Coughlan can’t share details about the plot, she can share is which of her character’s season two looks is her favorite.
“There’s one look I wear; I’m wearing a yellow dress, which is pretty much par for the course for Penelope. Jenny, my makeup artist, and I worked on progressing her look from episode one through eight. So she is kind of becoming more confident, more in control of her own look, but not completely because she’s still in her crazy yellow dresses,” she says. “There’s one point, I want to say it’s the sixth episode, where you can kind of see that she looks really different from episode one of season two and from season one. It’s much, much softer. We used a pink on the lip and the hair is really romantic. I actually can’t say where she is or what she is doing!”
